When to use ARSENICUM ALBUM in Senile  gangrene:

ARSENICUM ALBUM — 

Senile  gangrene;  ulcers  extremely  painful  or  entirely insensible,  with  elevated  edges,  secreting  a  bad,  watery,  fetid  ichor. 

Hard, shining,  burning  swelling  with  bluish-black,  burning  vesicles,  filled  with acrid  ichor.

Amelioration from  warmth,  aggravation  from  cold.

Extreme  restlessness.

Gangrene accompanied  by  fetid  diarrhea;  great  weakness  and  emaciation.

Numbness, stiffness  and  insensibility  of  the  feet.

General  coldness  with  parchment like dryness  of  the  skin,  followed  by  heat.

Arsenicum album

Mind: Hears voices and sees animals (alcoholics) after having taken alcohol often, in small doses. Very great anguish and restlessness; cannot rest anywhere, moves from place to place; wants to go from one bed to another. Fear of death, of being left alone, great restlessness and utter prostration.

Face: Face deathly pale; pale, yellow, cachectic look; swollen, sunken, covered with cold sweat; hippocratic.

Eyes: Conjunctiva inflamed, extreme redness and dryness of inner surface of lids, they rub painfully against the ball; burning pains. Eyelid swollen and oedematous, firmly closed and looks as if distended with air. The lachrymal discharges burn and excoriate the cheeks.

Nose: Watery coryza; discharge causes burning or smarting of nostrils as if sore.

Mouth and Throat: Lead colored tongue. Burning in mouth, pharynx and esophagus; drinks often but little at a time.

Stomach: Unquenchable thirst; drinks often, but little at a time; the water disagrees. Stomach is disordered after eating fruit or ice cream. Complaints from chewing tobacco. Vomiting immediately after eating or drinking. Intense heat and burning in the stomach and pit of stomach. Vomiting and stool simultaneous.

Abdomen: Violent burning pains with intolerable anguish. Cutting colic, gripping and twisting, especially about the navel, as if the intestines were tied in a knot; flatulent; cold sweat especially on forehead.

Urinary: Suppression or retention of urine; has no desire to pass it.

Respiratory: Consoling words displease and excite cough. From climbing mountains, or other muscular exertions, want of breath, prostration, cannot sleep, and other ailments. Breathing asthmatic, must incline the chest forward, must spring out of bed at night, especially about midnight. Sharp, fixed or darting pains in the apex, and through upper third of right lung.

Extremities: Restlessness of limbs with excessive weakness and exhaustion, obliges him to lie down. Old ulcers of legs, with great burning and stinging, and bluish color.

Fever: Heat mixed up with chill. Burning heat, with unquenchable thirst; restlessness and prostration. Paroxysm at 1 a. m. or p. m.

Skin: Bran-like, scaly eruptions with itching and burning; burning increased by scratching and followed by bleeding.

Generalities: Extreme prostration, sudden sinking of strength; every movement greatly increases the exhaustion.

Complaints caused by chewing tobacco (tobacco habit). Poisoning from decayed or morbid animal matter by inoculation, inhaling, or swallowing. From climbing heights or other muscular exertions, want of breath, prostration, cannot sleep, and other ailments. Burning internal or external, in ulcers, eruptions, etc., ameliorated by external heat.

Causes and Modalities: Generally worse at night, especially at 1 to 3 a. m. Ameliorated from warmth in general, warm applications, wraps, warm food, drink etc. Ameliorated by lying with head high. Worse from cold in general, cold air,cold food, cold drinks, cold washings, worse after eating and drinking, or lying with head low. Effect of poisoning from decayed or morbid animal matter by inoculation or swallowing.
